Vegetation Data in Savanna Plots, Burkina Faso, 2015

This vegetation data comes from surveys conducted in November 2015 on savanna plots in Burkina Faso. Plots are distributed in three areas: the municipality of Dano, the regional reserve of Bontioli, and the national reserve of Nazinga. A total of 28 plots were surveyed.

Supplemental Information

The 28 savanna plots are distributed in 3 survey areas as followed:

- 9 plots in Bontioli (id: BONTIOLI1 to BONTIOLI9)

- 11 plots in Dano (id: DANO1 to DANO9 and DREYER1 & DREYER2). The 2 Dreyer plots are located inside the Dreyer foundation compound and belong to the Dano area.

- 8 plots in Nazinga (id: NAZINGA1 to NAZINGA8)

For each plot a data logger was set up measuring Temperature and Relative Humidity (RH) (see other dataset). The vegetation was surveyed on a 60m diameter circle around the logger and the following data was collected:

- species number for herbacious species

- species number, abundance and tree size for woody species

Variables:

date = date of survey

station = identification number of the savanna plots

vegType = type of vegetation structure. Each plot is characterized by a vegetation structure. 5 types: shrub savanna, tree savanna, savanna woodland, open forest, gallery forest

specie = latin name of species present on the plot

abundance = percentage of ground surface covered by the specie (%)

circumference = circumference at breast height for the given tree (m)

diameter = diameter at breast height for the given tree (m)

height = height of the given tree (m)
