Moringa oleifera_duration of functional phases of flower antheses (in hours) in 2014 in Dano, Burkina Faso
The floral anthesis of flowers of Moringa oleifera were carried out in 2014 in Dano, Burkina Faso.
The flowers are open for several days and proteandrous, e.g. the anthers release pollen before the stigma (female part) is receptive. After the antheres withered, the stylus grows out of the flower and the stigma becomes receptive. This dichogamy prevents self-pollination of the flowers.

Anthesis is the flowering time. In the male phase, anthers release pollen while the stigma is still not receptive (e.g. flower is pollen donor). In the female phase, anthers are empty, wilthened and Stigma is receptive for pollen (flower is pollen receptor).
The different temporal phases (dichogamy) are supposed to prevent self-pollination within one flower. Numbers are given in hours.
