Questionnaire with Participants of a Conference in Tamale on Land Use and Land Cover Change (LULCC) Dynamics, Drivers of LULCC, Trends of Land Use Types/Crop Types, Upper East Region - Ghana

The questionnaire was conducted in August 6 - 8, 2014, with 7 PhD and MSc participants of the "First International Conference on Enhancing Resilience to Climate and Ecosystem Changes in Semi-arid Africa" in Tamale, Ghana. The questionnaire was based on a survey on Drivers of Land Use and Land Cover Change (LULCC), Trends of Land Use Types/Crop Types in the Upper East Region (Ghana), conducted between March and December 2014 with researchers in Ghana.

Supplemental Information

Intensity of drivers of land use/cover change (LULCC) in the Upper East Region (UER); from no influence to high influence (Likert-scale); asked for following drivers of LULCC:

• Farming practice (e.g. slash and burn)

• Farming intensity (fallow or permanent crop)

• Farming tools (manual, bullock, tractor)

• Fertilizer application

• Soil quality (e.g. nutrient availability, storage capacity)

• Topography (hilltop, slope, valley)

• Cropping system (mixed or mono cropping)

• Irrigation (dam, river, wells)

• Use of trees and wood (firewood, livestock feeding)

• Livestock density (livestock unit per hectare)

• Livestock type (cow, goat, sheep, fowl)

• Bush fires for hunting and grazing

• Increasing climate variability

• Improved crop variety (hybrids)

• Weeds (e.g. striga)

• Mining (gold, sand, stone)

• Settlements

• Infrastructure (roads, hospitals, markets)

• Rural household size

• Land size available for farming

• Money available for farming

• Labour available for farming

• Gender: male or female farmer (e.g. use rights)
